Destination Jungle in cooperation with Kirama Viaggi launches a new tour product to discover Uganda and Rwanda from a different point of view, the “geo trekking” program. We requested Andrea Rossotti, expert geologists and traveler, ready to guide the first groups scheduled on 14th June and 14th July 2011, to comment on this new travel idea. In his words, “A new ocean will arise when the Rift Valley, the famous tectonic active fracture with his movement one day will separate the Ethiopia and Kenya from the rest of the continent. A journey through Uganda and Rwanda will let the traveler to discover the vast valley formed by the fracturing of the crust and not randomly dotted with active volcanoes and unique geological events.

The expedition of the “Search” lead by Swedish tour leader Mr. Fredrik Hermelin has just concluded after a journey of 14 days between Uganda and Rwanda. The group was composed by 14 travelers, of Swedish and Danish nationalities and the presence of Tanzanian Mrs. Mary Carneiro Director of Easy Travel. Destination Jungle staff was involved through the work of our guides Charles, Kasule and Ismail.(in the picture, a meal with the children)

With the Children

One of the most emotional moments of the tour was the encounter with the Children’s Farm in Bukomeru on 3^rd April. Our visitors met the children of the orphanage, which is supported by Destination Jungle under the sustainable tourism projects of the company’s policies. The Director of Volsfan Ms. Elisa Straffi welcomed the group and the children were singing and dancing all their known songs, part of their educational activities. We had good typical meal together and some game. In the words of Mr. Fredrik: “We received so much from this country in terms of emotions that the minimum we could do is to give back something”. The Search expedition brought a number of toys, school material and clothes which are so much needed in this remote orphanage.

The United Nations General Assembly declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests to raise awareness on sustainable management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests (http://www.un.org/en/events/iyof2011/).

Forests and sustainable forest management contribute significantly to adverse climate change, sustainable development, poverty eradication and the achievement of internationally agreed development goals. The need for sustainable management of all types of forest, including the fragile forest ecosystems should be emphasized.

Concerted efforts should focus on raising awareness at all levels to strengthen the sustainable management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests for the benefit of current and future generations.

In Uganda we as tour operators should take the lead in sensitizing the whole tourist community, the civil society and the government bodies about the threat of rampant deforestation. This is a serious threat for the future of tourism in the country, where the main tourism products are forest based, like the primate trekking and the mountain gorilla trekking. Particularly, Bwindi forest is at risk if interventions of requalification will not take place in the near future, which will support the compromised gorilla habitat as well as the local communities from revamping tourist products with real benefits than the actual gorilla permits.

Gambella Kayak

2010 Lake Victoria KAYAK  Expedition LOGO  was unveiled today . The Kayak expedition  in the largest Inland lake in the World  is a joint  effort  by  many individuals , Sponsors and  organizations from  Italy-Kenya -Uganda  to  support Drinking Water, Adventure Tourism in East Africa  and to bring awareness to the climate change threatening the Lake.The logo design ; The paddle is to  represent the enviromentally frinedly  sport of Canoeing  , Hippo represent Tourism and the Environment of Lake Victoria and Drops of Water represent the Drinking water Project supported  through AMREF.The Expedition will start from Source of Nile in Jinja, Uganda on 16 November  and finish at Kisumu Yacht Club in Kisumu, Kenya on 21st November. It will  be an epic voyage of  courage and perserverance against  Natural  and Logistical odds  by  Italy  Team led by Francesco Gambella a world record Holder , and Kenya Team Led by  Seif Patwa through 300km in rough and unpredictable Lake Victoria  for 5 days and nights.Some opportunities for sponsorship  for logistical support do still exist before and during the Expedition .Please contact  the undersigned.

Destination Jungle PARIS 2010

Destination jungle Paris Destination Jungle was member of the delegation of Ugandan tour operators exhibiting at the TOP RESA International French Travel Market in Paris from 21st to 24th September 2010. This was the first time for Uganda to attend the most important professional tourism exhibition of France. It was crucial the role played by our company, Sylvia Kalembe of Tourism Uganda and the Ugandan Embassy in Paris, represented by H. E. Madam Elizabeth Paula Napeyok. She welcomed us starting from the airport up to the last toast after the show from the embassy quarters. My impression is that the French operators are still not aware of countries like Uganda or Rwanda as destinations. The number of journalists and travel writers we received is encouraging for the future and we shall support them with enough information to present our products to the French public at large. When I went for the first time in Madrid at Fitur in 2006 that was also the first time for Uganda, but a lot of progress was made with time.

We shall persist showing our professional services to French operators and not giving up for the little success of this venture. As H. E. said while toasting for Uganda, “sometimes we need to do something for the country and for the betterment of Uganda, even when the results will be far in the long term”.

Jour 1 – Entebbe
A votre arrivée à l’aéroport international d’Entebbe vous serez accueillis par notre équipe qui assurera votre transfert à l’hôtel de Kampala, à Cassia Lodge – Hotel Le Bougainviller (C) ou bien à l’hotel Capitol Palace(E) ou vous passerez la nuit. BB
Optionnel : Dépendant de l’horaire du vol, dans l’après-midi vous pourrez visiter l’île de  Ngamba sur le lac Victoria pour voir comment nourrir les chimpanzes et écouter des informations de l’équipe du sanctuaire.

Jour 2 – Le Parc National de Murchison Falls
Après le petit déjeuner, votre safari en Ouganda commencera en roulant vers le nord ouest à Masindi et vers le parc du Murchison Falls, en faisant des étapes sur la route pour goûter la cassava ou d’autre nourriture locale. La première activité sera une promenade dans la réserve de Ziwa Rhino qui constitue un projet de conservation qui a contribué à remporter les Rhinocéros blancs et noirs en Ouganda. Vous aurez la possibilité de les voir tout de près pendant leur libre promenade. Déjeuner. Vous poursuivrez ensuite votre voyage vers le plus grand des parcs nationaux d’Ouganda, le Murchison Falls, où des chutes spectaculaires créent un tourbillon d’eau sur le Nil.  Vous pourrez regarder les chutes du haut. Vous dînerez et passerez la nuit dans le lodge Paraa Safari Lodge / Nile Safari Lodge (C) ou Red Chilli Rest Camp (E). Pension complète
Note: Aujourd’hui le voyage de transfert sera de six heures et pendant une partie on traversera le parc.

Jour 3 – Le Parc National de Murchison Falls
Après une tasse de café, tôt le matin vous participerez à un safari photographique pour explorer la savane dans la région du delta du Nil sur le lac Albert, banc du Nord. Parmi les animaux sauvages de ce safari en Ouganda on pourra rencontrer des éléphants, lions, girafes, buffles, kobs, hyènes et léopards. Il faudra être prêts pour les meilleures photos. C’est une experience unique de safari en Afrique. Vous relaxerez pendant le chemin de retour au lodge où vous aurez le petit déjeuner et le déjeuner. Dans l’après-midi, un autre safari en Ouganda sera organisé en bateau sur le fleuve du Nil jusqu’à la base des cascades de Murchison Falls. Il est incroyable de voir quelle concentration de vie sauvage existe auprès du Nil!  Il y a des hippopotames, des crocodiles et une grande variété d’oiseaux; en faite vous pouver faire beaucoup d’observation d’ouseaux en Ouganda, et voir l’aigle africaine, le pélican, cormorans, les rare « shoebill stork » venant se désaltérer au abord du lac. Dîner et nuit dans le lodge, Paraa Safari Lodge / Nile Safari Lodge (C) ou Red Chilli Rest Camp (E). Pension complète

Jour 4 – Albertine Rift Valley et Fort Portal
Après le petit déjeuner votre voyage en Ouganda quittera le Parc National pour procéder vers sud-ouest longeant le lac Albert et les escarpements de la Western Rift Valley Albertine pour apprécier la vue panoramique. Continuez votre safari en Ouganda en passant par Hoima, la capital du royaume des Bunyoro, pour faire un petit arrêt. Déjeuner en route. Vous poursuivrez le voyage en passant par les cannes à sucre, les plantations de thés, café, cacao et bananes. Vous arriverez à Fort Portal, la capitale du royaume de Tooro, à l’ombre des Montagnes du Rwenzori, la chaine des montagnes la plus importante en Afrique ou il y a la possibilite d’un trekking. Dîner et nuit a Nyinabulitwa Country Resort ou Mountains of the Moon Hotel ou Primate Lodge. Pension complète
Note: Aujourd’hui le transfert durera 6 ou 8 heures.

Jour 5 – De Fort Portal au Parc National Queen Elizabeth
Aprés le petit déjeuner vous vous dirigerez vers Fort Portal à sud-ouest  du parc national Queen Elizabeth. Pendant le chemin pour joindre le lodge vous vous arrêterez pour un safari photographique avant le déjeuner. Dans l’après-midi, a partir de la péninsule de Mweya vous apprécierez un des safari le plus excitant d’Afrique en bateau que vous amènera sur le canal Kazinga, un de site le plus connus en Ouganda pour sa concentration de vie sauvage où vous aurez la possibilité de prendre de magnifiques photos. La croisière en bateau vous introduira dans la vie sur les abords du lac pour regarder de plus prêt une quantité d’animaux et spécialement d’oiseaux. Il y existe 550 espèces avec de magnifiques couleurs  parmi lesquels le turacco Great Rwenzori pour une bonne experience d’observation des oiseaux. En plus, vous aurez la possibilité de voir une grande concentration des hippopotames, buffles, et éléphants.  Vous dînerez et passerez la nuit à Mweya Safari Lodge – Katara Lodge (C) ou Hippo Hill Camp (E). Jour 6 – Parc National Queen Elizabeth
Après une tasse de café on commencera la journée par une excursion dans le parc national Queen Elizabeth, dans la région du Nord et en direction du Lac George et le village Kasenyi, en véhicule avec votre chauffeur. Vous aurez la possibilité de faire une unique safari photographique en Ouganda, rencontrer de lions, éléphants, buffles, warthogs, hyènes, mangoustes, antilope d’eau, kobs ougandais, topi et une grande variété d’oiseaux et peut-être, et avec un peu de chance, le léopard, très difficile à voir. Le nombre d’animaux a considérablement augmenté par rapport aux années 70 et maintenant il est facile de les voir se promener dans le parc, donc votre voyage en Afrique sera remarquable. Vous profiterez des paysages magnifiques et de vue inoubliable sur les lacs volcaniques.  Retour au lodge pour le déjeuner. Dans l’après-midi, on fera une promenade dans la forêt de la Gorge Kyambura pour le trekking des chimpanzés et les autres primates habitués aux visites des touristes. La gorge a une longueur de 16 Km  et une profondeur de 100m. Vous dînerez et passerez la nuit Mweya Safari Lodge – Katara Lodge (C) ou Hippo Hill Camp (E). Pension complète

Jour 7 – La forêt de Bwindi
Après le petit déjeuner, vous poursuivrez votre voyage a Ouganda au sud-ouest du pays  pour le trekking des gorilles de montagne, une espèce de primate en extinction dont il n’en reste que peu de centaines d’examplaires dans la forêt tropicale « Bwindi Impénétrable». Dépendant des conditions de la route et du climat, vous pourrez visiter la région de Ishasha dans le sud du parc Queen Elisabeth. Cette région est habitée par une population de rares lions qui grimpent aux arbres pendant les heures les plus chaudes de la journee. Déjeuner en route. Dans la soirée vous arriverez dans le Parc National de Bwindi, un des plus connu parcs nationaux d’Ouganda.  Vous dînerez et passerez la nuit, Bwindi Engagi Lodge – Nkuringo Safari Lodge (C) or Buhoma Community Rest Camp – Kisoro Travellers Hotel (E). Jour 8 – Le safari / trekking des gorilles de montagne
De bonne heure le matin, après un petit déjeuner, vous entrerez dans la forêt tropicale de Bwindi pour le trekking des gorilles de montagne et suivre leurs traces. Les activités commencent à 8 le matin et vous suivrez le guide du parc dans un group de max 8 personnes à la recherche de la famille de gorilles qui vous a été assigné par le permit. La forêt de Bwindi ôte une population de environ 370 gorilles des montagne qui représente la moitie de la population du monde. Vous avez l’occasion d’observer les gorilles dans leurs environnements naturels et vous apprécierez cette aventure excitante. Les gorilles sont timides et pacifiques et c’est une expérience inoubliable de les voir et vous pourrez les photographier et observer leurs mode de communication leurs échanges les un avec les autres. Vous amènerez avec vous le déjeuner et de l’eau suffisante pour la journée. Vous dînerez et passerez la nuit sur le Lac Bunyonyi, Arcadia Cottages – Heritage Lodge (C) ou Jajama Panorama Lodge (E). Jour 9 – Lac Bunyonyi – Kampala
Après le petit déjeuner, il y aura une excursión guide en bateau sur le Lac Bunyonyi pour faire de l’observation des oiseaux en Ouganda et du tourisme culturel.
Dan l’après midi votre Ouganda safari se terminera et vous rentrerez à Kampala. Le déjeuner sera servi pendant le chemin de retour.
Vous dînerez et passerez la nuit à l’hôtel de Kampala, à Cassia Lodge – Hotel Le Bouhgainviller (C) ou bien à l’hotel Capitol Palace (E). BB

Jour 10 – Entebbe
