Regular Itinerary

Day 1

Nairobi

Upon arrival in Nairobi at the airport, our representative will transfer you from the airport to a hotel for an overnight stay on a bed and breakfast basis at Sentrim Boulevard.

Day 2

Nairobi – Kakamega Forest Reserve

After breakfast, we’ll head westwards towards the Kisumu and the Kakamega Forest Reserve. 400 Km from Nairobi, the forest and its 240 sq Km of extension is the largest intact remaining tropical rainforest in Kenya.

You have lunch en route then dinner and overnight at Rondo Retreat. This is a scenic location within the forest for peace and quiet while immersed in nature.

Day 3

Kakamega Forest Reserve

After breakfast, we go on a walk along the trails of the forest. This area is home to many primates which include the black and white colobous monkey, the red tailed monkey, flying squirrels, blue monkeys and potto.

Other wildlife to be spotted here includes forest buck, duikers, and dik dik.

Kakamega is a birding paradise and home to over 300 bird species that include the great blue turaco, the emerald cuckoo, and the black and white casqued hornbill. Chameleons are a common sight in the undergrowth. There are also over 400 species of butterflies.

At night, the forest is transformed into a different world, the air is filled with bats, the croaks of frogs, singing birds and the booming calls of the giant forest squirrel.

Despite the ease of access, Kakamega is a quiet retreat for nature lovers, the perfect place to take some time off and relax.

Day 4 & 5

Lake Victoria

Following breakfast, will see us transfer to Kisumu in Mbita on the shores of Lake Victoria. Western Kenya is one of Kenya’s best kept secrets with lots to offer visitors in terms of undiscovered and untouched worlds and wonders.

We get to Lake Victoria Safari Village; a village consisting of attractive, round, thatched traditional huts that overlook the lake. It provides a friendly and relaxed environment for you to kick back and chill and a perfect place to sniff the breeze.

Optional activities (upon request) include boat trips on lake Victoria, sport fishing, and bird watching.

Lunch, dinner and overnight at Kiboko Bay Resort.

Day 6

Lake Baringo

After breakfast, your exploratory journey of Kenya proceeds north to Lake Baringo. This is the most northerly of of Kenya’s small Rift Valley lakes, creased in papyrus and a well developed acacia forest. Hippos, crocodiles, monitor lizards and numerous numbers of birds can be effortlessly seen from its shores. This is also the
home of the Njemps tribe, a unique people who are not only a pastoral community, but also partake in fishing, among othe tribes as the Maasai, where eating fish is taboo.

At an extra cost you can take the trekking or a boat ride to Ol Kokwe Island, a stark, rocky island that hosts Njemp villages.

Lunch will be had en route with dinner and overnight at Lake Baringo Club.

Day 7

Mararal Game Reserve

Today sees us set off for the small town of Mararal which is the unofficial capital of the Samburu people. The Mararal Game Reserve is situated in close proximity, amidst the Ol Donyo Lenkiyo Mountains, one of the great secrets of Kenya, with fantastic landscapes and teeming in wildlife.

In Mararal, you’ll get to see zebras, plenty of buffaloes, as well as elephants.

All meals and overnight will be at the Mararal Safari Lodge which is situated within the reserve.

Day 8

Mararal – Turkana

After breakfast, we drive to the Desert Rose with picnic lunches. This is a unique, eco friendly lodge located at the foot of a Samburu holy mountain, the Oldonyo Nyiru, which offers us the opportunity to take part in and observe some of the important traditional celebrations of the Samburu that are observed at the top of this mountain. Desert Rose guest are always invited to local celebrations, from circumcisions, to colorful wedding parties, which grant visitors the privilege and opportunity to gain
unprecedented insight into their culture.

All meals and overnight are at the Desert Rose Lodge.

Day 9

Turkana

After breakfast, you’re free to explore the Turkana region that surrounds the lodge. The following activities are included; guided walks, bird watching, camel rides, bush meals, sundowners, or cultural visits to Turkana and Samburu communities.

Day 10 & 11

Turkana

After breakfast, we proceed further North to Lake Turkana, the biggest desert lake in the world. You arrive at Eliye Springs Lodge, an eco lodge which attracts tourists interested in understanding culture and nature in an ecological approach.

The lodge is found on the Western Coast of Lake Turkana, a place of comfort and chill which also happens to be the best starting point for any exploratory activity of the surrounding Turkana region and villages.

Optional activities like boat rides, wildlife watching, village walks, are done at extra cost.

Day 12

Turkana – Nairobi

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip in Lodwar for your flight to Nairobi where you can connect to your international flight.
