Regular Itinerary

  • Day 1

    Kigali

    You’ll be welcomed upon arrival at Kigali International Airport and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay.

  • Day 2

    Kigali – Nyanza – Nyungwe

    After breakfast, we drive south towards Nyungwe.

  • Day 3

    The Primates of Nyungwe National Park

    You’ll have an early breakfast at six in the morning then go chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest.

  • Day 4

    Along the Shores of Lake Kivu – Kibuye

    After breakfast, you’ll leave Nyungwe and proceed north along the shores of Lake Kivu and get to Kibuye in time for lunch.

  • Day 5

    Gishwati-Mukura National Park – Volcanoes National Park

    This day sees you explore the north-west of Rwanda. After breakfast, you set off for the Volcanoes National Park.

  • Day 6

    Mountain Gorilla Tracking

    After an early breakfast, we set off gorilla trekking. In the afternoon, we recommend you take a cultural walk to one of the eco-tourist sites.

  • Day 7

    Volcanoes National Park – Kigali

    An early breakfast will follow a transfer to Kigali where we recommend you try out the city tour.

    Reserved for departure flights from Kigali International Airport.

Day 1

Kigali

You’ll be welcomed upon arrival at Kigali International Airport and transferred to your hotel for an overnight stay.

Day 2

Kigali – Nyanza – Nyungwe

After breakfast, we drive south towards Nyungwe.

We have a stop over in Nyanza before proceeding to Butare town in Huye where we have lunch.

Nyanza

In the past, this was considered the political capital. It hosts the antique royal palace that has been entirely renovated and restored for visitation. On display, are the royal regalia of the Mwami (King).

Butare

This is the second largest town and considered the cultural capital. It hosts a University and the National Museum. The handicraft shops where artifacts (with special mention to the weaving baskets) made by Rwandan artisans are sold are of particular interest here.

We then proceed to Nyungwe where you check into your preferred lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3

The Primates of Nyungwe National Park

You’ll have an early breakfast at six in the morning then go chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest. The target area for this activity includes two areas:

  • Uwinka Visitor Center
  • Cyamudongo Forest

Dinner and overnight stay at you preferred lodging.

Day 4

Along the Shores of Lake Kivu – Kibuye

After breakfast, you’ll leave Nyungwe and proceed north along the shores of Lake Kivu and get to Kibuye in time for lunch.

Here you’ll get to relax at your leisure or optionally, we can arrange a boat trip to the closest islands on Lake Kivu where you’ll get to discover and take in the unspoiled locations.

Dinner and an overnight stay at any of the select lodging options on offer.

Day 5

Gishwati-Mukura National Park – Volcanoes National Park

This day sees you explore the north-west of Rwanda. After breakfast, you set off for the Volcanoes National Park. The route sees us go through the Gishwati Forest which in 2016 became the fourth national park in Rwanda with the name Gishwati-Mukura National Park and covers about 35 sq Km.

By afternoon, you’ll get to Musanze (Ruhengeri) at the gates of the Volcanoes National Park. This 125 sq Km park is named after the Virunga volcanoes and is set along the Rwanda-Congo border.

Check in for dinner and an overnight stay at one of the select lodges.

Day 6

Mountain Gorilla Tracking

After an early breakfast at 7 in the morning, we set off for the trek in the forest in search of one of the habituated families of mountain gorilla.

Following a briefing from the park rangers, you’ll set off from the starting point of the trekking. As it is not predictable how much time will be sent before eventually finding the gorillas, do come prepared with drinking water, a packed lunch and comfortable trekking boots.

Upon coming across the gorillas, you’ll have an hour to observe them and take photographs.

Later on in the afternoon, we’d recommend that you take a cultural walk to one of the eco-tourist sites featuring the communities around Kinigi such as the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village. This will offer up the opportunity to observe and immerse yourself in their culture. View their real life interactions mimicking their traditions and even see the Intore dancers perform.

Return to your lodging at your leisure. Dinner and overnight at one of the select lodging facilities on offer.

Day 7

Volcanoes National Park – Kigali

An early breakfast will follow a transfer to Kigali.

Here, we recommend that you try out the city tour. Here, you can visit the Genocide Memorial of Gisozi, Camp Kigali, and The Natural History Museum. Also, there are the interesting traditional markets like in Muhima or the Caplaki center that are worth checking out.

Lunch will be available at a restaurant while dinner and overnight at one of the select lodging options available.
