Day 2

Murchison Falls National Park

An early breakfast is followed by a drive northwest towards Masindi and the Murchison Falls conservation area. This is the largest conservation area in Uganda and offers breathtaking scenery of grassland acacia savannah to the north and tropical forests to the south.

We have a stop over for a nature walk and lunch at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This houses the breeding project which saw the rebirth of the endangered white rhinos in Uganda. You can view them at close quarters while they move freely in the natural habitat.

Thereafter, we proceed to Murchison Falls National Park where you check into your preferred lodge for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3

Murchison Falls National Park

After breakfast, we embark on an early morning game drive to explore the savannah in the delta of the Nile on Lake Albert’s northern bank.

You’ll have the opportunity to take memorable photos of animals in the wild as you will likely chance upon elephants, lions, buffaloes, giraffes, waterbuck, bushbuck, spotted hyenas, and on the rare occasion, leopards.

We will then drive back to your lodge for lunch.

In the afternoon, you’ll take a boat excursion along the Nile to the base of the magnificent Murchison Falls. You will take in an amazing concentration of wildlife at the river’s banks that include hippos, crocodiles, as well as a wide variety of bird species such as the African eagle, pelicans, the kingfisher, Egyptian geese, and many more!

We then proceed to walk to the top of the falls. Here, the Nile creates a narrow canyon of thunderous water as it crashes down into the Albertine Rift Valley.

Dinner and overnight stay at you preferred lodging.

Day 4

Budongo Forest

An early breakfast is followed by a drive to Budongo Forest in Kaniyo-Pabidi ecotourist site. Here you partake in a tropical forest trek and get to interact with chimpanzees in their natural habitat. The forest is also home to other primates as the black and white colobus monkey, the red-tailed monkey, the blue monkey, the vervet monkey and baboons.

The chimpanzee trekking is possible due in part to the conservation efforts of the Jane Goodall Institute and the park authorities.

You can take lunch or have a packed lunch in the afternoon after which you may take part in a cultural activity by the Boomu Women Group ecotourist site or the Kanyio Pabidi Ecotourism Guide Association (KAPEGA) provided by local guides who work in the forest. Bugoma Forest is approximately 410 sq Km and is inhabited by chimpanzees and the Ugandan mangabey. It is also the site of a conservation drive, “Chimpanzee Go!”.

About Chimpanzee Go!

This is a fund raising initiative by Destination Jungle in support of the Association for the Conservation of Bugoma Forest.

Objectives

  • Raise funds to aid in reforestation of degraded areas
  • Law enforcement against illegal logging
  • Provide incentives for communities that live next to the reserve to facilitate conservation

Time permitting, we’d suggest a nature walk in the forest and perhaps planting a tree.

We’ll have lunch in a restaurant en route. The drive to Kasese town takes us on a path along the Rwenzori Mountain Ranges.
