Sustainable Accommodation Policies

Destination Jungle is a tour operator committed to sustainability in the tour operations. We look at minimizing our environmental impact, improving the livelihood along the tourist chain especially in disadvantaged communities and considering the importance of human rights and social rights of the people working in tourism.

For this reason, it is important that we partner with hotels that understand and share our commitment, which will help to make a change in the industry and to fulfill our clients’ expectations.

  1. We developed a policy on sustainable accommodation which guides our choices and preferences for our guests stay while under our services.
  2. We prefer accommodation which has a sustainability certification and sustainable policies in place.
  3. We prefer smaller eco-friendly accommodations, locally owned, where guests can have an authentic and overall cultural experience.
  4. We prefer and encourage hotels and lodges to adopt sustainable and cleaner energy, like solar energy, biogas, alternative briquettes.
  5. We prefer and encourage hotels and lodges to reduce the use of plastic and excessive packaging, by adopting more eco-friendly products and packaging, like reusable glass, reusable cutleries, recyclable paper products, pure cotton textile. The water point at the hotel is a good service that our clients would like to receive.
  6. The hotels and lodges should have in place a policy for optimizing use of water and use of detergents.
  7. The hotels and lodges should have a full cycle of waste management plan to reduce environmental impact and reutilization of materials.
  8. The hotels and lodges should have a carbon neutral policy by reducing carbon emissions and by investing in the compensation of them.
  9. We prefer and encourage hotels and lodges to engage the local communities in the development of social corporate responsibility social or economic projects and in the development of community based tourism activities and eco-tourism.
  10. The hotels and lodges should support the local communities by: purchasing local products, providing employment, creating income generating activities or supporting the existing local activities, like craft, cultural groups, local guides, local products, village walks tours.
  11. We prefer and encourage hotels and lodges to partner with conservation programs and / or to engage in programs for the conservation of biodiversity.
  12. The hotels and lodges should have fair employment contracts, should employ the staff with a gender balance, should respect and protect human rights, social and economicrights according to the national and international laws. The rights of the children are protected and the exploitation and the employment of children is prohibited.
  13. In the eventuality that the hotel and lodge is operating in ways and manners that are demonstrated to be harmful to the environment, to the biodiversity, to the rights of the staff and detriment to the wellbeing and livelihood of the local communities, Destination Jungle will terminate its partnership with such hotel and lodge.
