Murchison Falls National Park derives its name from the focal point, the great Murchison Falls where the mighty River Nile explodes through a narrow gorge and flows down to become a placid river whose banks are lined with hippos, crocodiles, waterbucks and buffaloes. The vegetation is characterized by savannah, river-line forest as well as vast woodlands. Wildlife in the Murchison Falls National Park includes lions, leopards, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, hartebeests, oribis, Uganda Kobs, chimpanzees and many bird species including the rare shoebill. This park occupies an area of 3,893 sq km and it is located in north-western Uganda.

Activities include game drives and regularly scheduled Launch Trips to the base of the falls on the placid Victoria Nile with nautical adventures offering excellent game-viewing as well as unique bird watching. Boat trips to the lake delta provide the best chance in Africa of sighting the Shoebills, Chimp tracking at Rabongo and Budongo forests are another very popular activity. There is also excellent opportunity for fishing targeting the large Nile Perch which is over 100kg! Game drives are also available
