The ‘Gems of Uganda Adventure Safari’ is a slow-paced adventure safari lasting 14 days in Uganda with lots of excursions combined with relaxation. The focus is mainly on the Primates of Uganda as well as the BIG FIVE. There is more enjoyment and relaxation in each of the tourist destinations especially the large wildlife conservation areas of Murchison Fall Park and Queen Elizabeth Park. With specifically selected smaller camps / bandas for sleep overs, the program focuses also on personal experiences. The extra community visits are carefully selected with personal attention to protection and conservation of the wildlife and the natural environment during the tour. This program is open all year round and can be customized to fit the personal interests of the traveler.

Day 1 – Arrival Entebbe/ Kampala

Bed and Breakfast

  • On your arrival at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred for overnight in BB to the hotel, Boma Hotel / Karibu Guest House / Cassia Lodge.


Day 2 – Ziwa Rhino Reserve- Murchison Falls National Park

Full Board.

  • After breakfast and a brief meeting with the representatives, at 7.30am your adventure begins by driving northwest towards Masindi and Murchison Falls National Park, the largest national park in Uganda, which offers beautiful sceneries of grassland acacia savannah in the north and tropical forests in the south.
  • You will stop over for a nature walk at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary, the breeding project which is nurturing the rebirth of the endangered white rhinos in Uganda. You can see them closely while walking freely in the reserve which is their natural habitat
  •  Lunch in a restaurant
  • In the afternoon, proceed to Murchison Falls National Park and visit “top of the falls” where the River Nile creates a narrow canyon of thunderous water as it lowers down the Albertine Rift Valley.  
  • Check in to your lodge for dinner and overnight, Paraa Safari Lodge / Twiga Safari Lodge (C) Pakuba Lodge / Le Bamboo Village Lodge / Tilenga Lodge (E).
  • Upgrade accommodation: Nile Safari Lodge.

Day 3 – Murchison Falls National Park

Full Board.

  • After breakfast/cup of coffee at 6.30am you will embark on an early morning game drive, explore the savannah in the delta of the Nile on Lake Albert, Northern bank. As you view and take memorable photographs of the animals in the wild, you might find elephants, lions, buffalos, giraffes, waterbucks, bushbucks, spotted hyenas and, very rarely, the leopards.
  •  Drive back to the lodge for lunch.
  •  In the afternoon, you take the boat safari along the river Nile to the base of the magnificent Murchison Falls. The amazing concentration of wildlife on the bank of the river Nile, includes hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird’s species, like African eagles, pelicans, kingfisher, Egyptian geese and much more.
  •  Dinner and overnight at, Paraa Safari Lodge / Twiga Safari Lodge (C) Pakuba Lodge / Le Bamboo Village Lodge / Tilenga Lodge (E).
  • Upgrade accommodation: Nile Safari Lodge.


Day 4 – Murchison Falls National Park - Bugoma Forest

Full Board.

  • After a cup of coffee or full breakfast, depart at 7am to the Nile delta by boat and discover the birdlife and scenic views along the Nile. It is an impressive experience encountering the shoebill in the swamps along the Nile. More so, this is a moment to discover the birdlife along this part of the Nile.
  • Proceed your journey in the direction of Lake Albert to Bugoma Forest reserve.
  • Lunch en route in a restaurant.
  • While at Bugoma, take a cultural experience of Bugoma community walk in the local villages. This is an opportunity for you to interact with the people living near the forest, to see how they live and the activity is guided by a local guide.
  • Dinner and overnight at Bugoma Jungle Lodge.

Note: The transfer today is about 3 hours with 180 km.


Day 5 – Bugoma Forest - Albertine Rift Valley and Fort Portal

Full Board.

  • Enjoy freshly made breakfast from the lodge and head out for the Uganda mangabey trekking in Bugoma Forest. It is also the site for the conservation effort by the Association for Conservation of Bugoma Forest (www.bugomaconservation.org ). The Association makes this experience of the nature walk possible through the development of eco-tourism activities in Bugoma and training of local guides to benefit the surrounding communities. You can actively support the conservation projects of the Association: Every 5 Acres reforestation project; the private patrol Chimp T-RAP for the law enforcement against illegal logging; the public nursery for indigenous trees and beekeeping project with the local farmers. You will find here available the local products of the community like the Bugoma tea and the Bugoma honey.
  • You will also participate in the planting of one indigenous tree in the reforestation project area “Every 5 Acres”, to contribute to giving new habitat to the chimpanzees.
  • Then you leave Bugoma forest heading southwest along the Lake Albert and Rift Valley escarpment, with breathtaking panoramic sceneries. Have a stopover for a cup of coffee.
  • Lunch en route in a restaurant.
  •  Later in the afternoon, arrive in Fort Portal the capital town of Tooro kingdom which lies on the shadow of Rwenzori Mountains, the biggest mountain range in Africa.
  •  Dinner and overnight at Turaco Treetop Lodge / Crater Safari Lodge (C) or Guereza Canopy Lodge / Isunga Lodge (E).
  • Upgrade accommodation: Primate Lodge / Papaya Lodge.

Day 6 - Kibale National Park – Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi

Full Board.

  • After breakfast, the activity of the day is the chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest. The activity of the day is the chimpanzee tracking experience which starts as early as 8am or 2pm in the afternoon according to the permit’s allocation with a briefing from the head park ranger. Kibale is one of the few remaining forests with a high concentration of chimpanzees, about a thousand out of the total population of five thousand in Uganda. The great apes were familiarized to eco-tourism thanks to the projects by Jane Goodall International Institute which worked on the conservation of Kibale. Other primates you might see while on the trek include black and white colobus, red tailed monkey and velvet monkey.
  • Lunch at the lodge
  • In the afternoon, visit the eco-tourist site of Bigodi for village walk (you also have the opportunity to taste the Ugandan cuisine at KAFRED). The Bigodi Walk is a local initiative project organized by the local community of KAFRED.
  • Return at leisure to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Turaco Treetop Lodge /Crater Safari Lodge (C) or Guereza Canopy Lodge / Isunga Lodge (E).
  • Upgrade accommodation: Primate Lodge / Papaya Lodge.


Day 7 - Queen Elizabeth National Park

Full Board.

  • In the morning after relaxed breakfast, transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park. The transfer will last about 3 hours.
  •  Lunch at the lodge.
  •  In the afternoon take the most exciting safari by boat from Mweya peninsula along the Kazinga channel. This is one of the most popular sites in Uganda for its concentration of wildlife, birdlife and opportunities for good photographs. See plenty of hippos, buffaloes and elephants while drinking from the channel.
  • Return at lush to the lodge for dinner and overnight at Mweya Safari Lodge / Kikorongo Lodge / Aardvark Lodge (C) or Ihamba Lakeside Safari Lodge / Kasenyi Safari Lodge (E).

Day 8 – Queen Elizabeth Park - Ishasha Sector

Full Board.

  • After early breakfast, proceed for another game drive in the plains of Kasenyi and then proceed with a short transfer to the southern sector, Ishasha. This is a vast savannah between the rivers: Ishasha and Ntungwe.
  •  Lunch at the camp in Ishasha
  •  Prepare for the evening game drive in search of the “tree climbing lions” which are seen during the hot hours of the day, as they lie resting on top of Figs trees. See also herds of buffaloes, elephants, topi antelopes and more. While on the evening game drive, we organize the “Sundowner” activity in the park, to enjoy the sunset immersed in the nature while having a drink.
  • Dinner and overnight at Ishasha Jungle Lodge.

Day 9 – Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth Park

Full Board.

  • After a cup of coffee, at 6.30am go for another game drive along the tracks of the national park, in the Southern sector. You might see lions, elephants, buffaloes, spotted hyenas, waterbucks, Uganda kobs, perhaps the leopard though is shy and rare to be seen.
  •  Lunch at the lodge.
  • In the afternoon, more game drives or go in for the Kameme Village Walk. Here, with the guidance of a local guide, enjoy a 2 hour’s walk to visit some homesteads and interact with the local people. You can proceed to Kameme Divine Primary School which is a community school and part of the corporate sponsorship program for Ishasha Jungle Lodge.
  • Return by evening to your lodge for dinner and overnight at Ishasha Jungle Lodge.

Day 10 – Ishasha - Bwindi Forest National Park

Full Board.

  • After breakfast, leave Queen Elizabeth and head southwards, where you find the rain tropical forests which are the natural habitat for the endangered mountain gorillas.
  • Lunch en route.
  •  Reach Bwindi National Park by evening for dinner and overnight, Bwindi Engagi Lodge/ Gorilla Safari Lodge / Ichumbi Lodge (C) or Bweza Lodge / Agandi Lodge / Noel Cottage / Rushaga Gorilla Camp (E).
  • Upgrade: Mahogany Springs Lodge – Buhoma side / Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge – Nkuringo side.

Note: Today transfer can be from 3 to 5 hours and depends on accommodation selected, roads conditions and place of allocation of gorilla permits. The choice of the area of the gorilla safari depends on the availability of permits at time of booking the trip.


Day 11 - Mountain gorilla safari

Full Board.

  • In the morning you enter the rain tropical forest of Bwindi for the gorilla safari. The activity starts at 8am and you will follow the ranger guides in a group of maximum 8 people as you search for the habituated family of mountain gorillas, which was allocated according to the permits. Bwindi forest in Uganda has a population of about 420 gorillas, which is more than half of the world population according to 2018 gorilla population surveys. It is not predictable the time you will spend to encounter the gorillas. You have one hour for observing the primates and their behaviors, while taking photographs.
  • Packed lunch and water are provided from the lodge. For this you might need the support of available porters.
  • Dinner and overnight, Bwindi Engagi Lodge/ Gorilla Safari Lodge / Ichumbi Lodge (C) or Bweza Lodge / Bakiga Lodge / Noel Cottage / Rushaga Gorilla Camp (E).
  • Upgrade: Mahogany Springs Lodge – Buhoma side / Nkuringo Gorilla Lodge – Nkuringo side.

           Trekking level: medium or high.


Day 12 – Batwa Trail Echuya Forest - Lake Bunyonyi

Full Board.

  • After breakfast, optionally, you can enjoy a walk in the nature of Echuya Forest, to encounter the Batwa pigmies and to learn about their history, traditions and culture. Later drive to Lake Bunyonyi near Kabale in the Kigezi region.
  • Lunch at the lodge.
  • In the afternoon you have a wonderful experience of nature with a guided canoe excursion along the Lake, for birding, exploration and visiting local places.
  • In the evening relax at the lodge, dinner and overnight at Bird Nest Resort / Arcadia Cottages Bunyonyi (C) or Bunyonyi Eco-resort / Lake Bunyonyi Rock Resort (E).


Day 13 – Lake Bunyonyi - Lake Mburo National Park

Full Board.

  • After breakfast, transfer to Lake Mburo National Park, the smallest of Ugandan National Parks.
  • Lunch en route.
  •  As you enter the park, go in for a game drive in search for the beautiful impalas, elands, topi and many antelopes, buffaloes, zebras.
  • Optional: night game drive in Lake Mburo.
  • Dinner and overnight at Rwakobo Rock Lodge / Kigarama Wilderness Camp (C) or Hyena Hill Lodge (E).  
  • Upgrade accommodation: Mihingo Lodge / Kigambira Safari Lodge / Mantana Luxury Tented Camp.


Day 14 – Lake Mburo - Entebbe

Half Board.

  • After breakfast, game drive.
  • Optional: you can enjoy a guided nature walk by the rangers or boat excursion.
  • Lunch at the lodge or enroute at a restaurant
  •  Proceed back to Entebbe for departure from Entebbe International airport.

Note: Today transfer is about 4 hours’ drive, approx. drive distance 299km.

Sustainability Policies

  • We have a “water policy”: we don’t use plastic bottles, but cans of water to be refilled in the vehicles; please bring with you your bottle water.
  • Our tours are “carbon neutral”, whereby our carbon emissions are computed and compensated through the reforestation project Every 5 Acres.
  • Travelers can “plant a tree” in the reforestation area and also support Every 5 Acres.
  • We support Association for Conservation of Bugoma Forest (ACBF – bugomaconservation.org) for developing eco-tourism and income generating activities in remote communities in Uganda and for the conservation efforts to protect Bugoma Forest Reserve.
  • We promote local typical products of Uganda and avail them under the brand “Jungle Taste”.
  • We use and avail cotton bags during the tour to reduce and avoid use of plastic bags while shopping.
  • We select the best eco-lodges with whom we partner for a more sustainable approach.
