Day 1 – Entebbe
Bed and Breakfast
- On your arrival at Entebbe International Airport in Uganda you will be welcomed by our representative and transferred for overnight in BB to the hotel, at Boma Hotel / Karibu Guest House.
Day 2: Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary
Full Board.
- After breakfast and a brief meeting with the company representatives at 7.30am, you transfer to the pier to board the boat to Ngamba Island for a day trip.
- Ngamba Island is located 23 km offshore from Entebbe. In 1998 it became Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary under Jane Goodall Foundation with the objective to provide a safe haven for orphaned chimpanzees that have been rescued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority from poachers or traders, with no chance of survival back to the wild. The day trip allows you to see the island and to view the feeding of the chimpanzees.
- Optional supplement: spend the night at Ngamba Eco-Lodge.
- Lunch in a restaurant
- In the afternoon, return to Entebbe at leisure.
- Dinner and overnight at Boma Hotel / Karibu Guest House.
Day 3 - Entebbe - Bugoma Forest
Full Board.
- After breakfast, at 7,30 am your adventure continues drive in the direction of Hoima and Bugoma Forest.
- Lunch in a restaurant in Hoima.
- In the afternoon you arrive in Bugoma Forest, where we do an evening nature walk to see the Uganda Mangabeys. Bugoma is the only home in Uganda for the Uganda Mangabeys (Lophocebus Ugandae) endemic of this forest. Meet them in their natural habitat and watch them as they groom the young ones and interact with each other. This activity is organized by Association for Conservation of Bugoma Forest with the local guides.
- Dinner and overnight in Bugoma Jungle Lodge.
- Note: distance is about 5 hours and half drive for 280 km.
Day 4 - Chimpanzee trekking in Bugoma Forest
Full Board
- After breakfast, at 7 am you will be transferred to Mwera Eco Tourism Center for briefing on the chimpanzee trekking adventure.
Loaded with drinking water and walking stick, enter the forest sanctuary and search for the endangered Chimpanzees. Meet the gentle giants and watch them as they interact with each other in their natural habit. Bugoma is home to over 300 chimpanzees and other primates including the black and white Colobus monkeys, Uganda Mangabeys, red-tailed monkeys, and blue monkeys. Over 200 bird species have been recorded in Bugoma Forest. The guide will give detailed information on not only the chimpanzees but also the flora and fauna of Bugoma Forest, making the walk both informative and enjoyable. Trace your foot steps back to the vehicle and return to the lodge.
- Lunch at the lodge.
- In the afternoon, you have the Bugoma cultural village walk. During the community visit, you have the opportunity to interact with the people living in the village near the forest reserve, see their economic activities and some of their traditions.
- You can also buy local typical products of the area like Bugoma honey and Bugoma Tea and you can participate in the reforestation program Every 5 Acres to plant a tree.
- Dinner and overnight at Bugoma Jungle Lodge.
Day 5 - Bugoma Forest – Kibale National Park
Full Board.
- After breakfast proceed to the region of Fort Portal and Kibale National Park, which lies on the shadow of Rwenzori Mountains, the biggest mountain range in Africa.
- Lunch at the lodge or in a restaurant.
- In the afternoon take a walk to visit panoramic view points of crater lakes Kasenda.
- Dinner and overnight at Isunga Lodge / Kibale Guest Cottages / Chimpancee Forest Lodge.
Day 6 - Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale Forest – Queen Elizabeth N.P
Full Board.
- After breakfast, today’s activity is the chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park for experiencing the rain tropical forest, birding and especially to encounter the chimpanzees in their natural environment. Kibale National Park with its 766 sq km of rain tropical forest contains the highest primates’ density in the world with about 1,200 chimpanzees. Among the species which you can see include black and white colobus, red tailed monkey and vervet monkey. Moreover, 325 species of birds are recorded.
- Lunch at the lodge
- In the afternoon, proceed to Queen Elizabeth National Park, the second largest in Uganda, which lies between Lake George on the East, Lake Edward on the West and the Rwenzori Mountains on the North. Have a game drive as you enter the park.
- Dinner and Overnight at Enganzi Lodge / Elephant Hub Lodge.
Note: The chimpanzee trekking can be done in the morning or in the afternoon according to availability of permits. Today transfer can be 2 hours’ drive.
Day 7 - Kyambura Gorge - Queen Elizabeth National Park
Full Board.
- After breakfast, drive to Kyambura Gorge, a deep forested gorge along river Kyambura within Queen Elizabeth National Park. The location is worth a visit and, if you are fit to descend the gorge for a nature walk, you might encounter the chimpanzees. Kyambura has a population of about 50 chimpanzees.
- Lunch at the lodge or a restaurant
- In the afternoon take the most exciting safari by boat from Mweya peninsula along Kazinga channel, one of the most popular sites in Uganda for its concentration of wildlife, bird’s life and opportunities for good photographs. Moreover, you will see plenty of hippos, buffaloes and elephants while drinking from the channel.
- In the evening, proceed to the Ishasha sector of the park.
- Dinner and overnight at Ishasha Jungle Lodge.
Day 8 - Queen Elizabeth NP (Ishasha) – Bwindi Impenetrable National Forest
Full Board.
- In the morning, we organize a game drive along the tracks of the Ishasha sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park. The best attraction here, with a bit of luck, is to see the tree-climbing lions; however, you will enjoy one of the most beautiful spots of savannah.
- Lunch at the lodge,
- Proceed to Bwindi National Park, the rain tropical forest that is the natural habitat for the endangered mountain gorillas. You will reach an altitude of up to 2300 m above sea level. The choice of the area of the “gorilla safari” depends on the availability and allocation of the permits for this activity.
- Dinner and overnight, Agandi Lodge / Noels Cottage / Bweza Lodge
- Note: Today transfer can be very long up to 7 hours and depends on roads conditions and place of allocation of gorilla permits. The choice of the area of the gorilla safari depends on the availability of permits and so it is for the accommodation option.
Day 9 - Mountain gorilla safari
Full Board.
- Early in the morning, you enter the rain tropical forest of Bwindi for the gorilla safari. The activity starts at 8am and you will follow the ranger guides in a group of maximum 8 people as you search for the habituated family of mountain gorillas. Bwindi forest in Uganda has a population of about 460 gorillas, which is half the world population according to 2018 gorilla surveys. It is not predictable the time you will spend to encounter the gorillas. You have one hour for observing the primates and their behaviors, while taking photographs. It is recommended that you hire for support from the available porters to help you carry your day pack/bag
- Packed lunch for the day.
- In the afternoon, after the trekking, proceed to Lake Bunyonyi.
- Dinner and overnight Arcadia Cottages Bunyonyi / Lake Bunyonyi Rock Resort.
Day 10 – Lake Bunyonyi - Entebbe
Half Board (breakfast and lunch)
- After breakfast, drive back to Kampala/Entebbe
- Lunch en route in a restaurant.
- Upon arrival, transfer to Entebbe International Airport for your flight onwards. Depending on the flight schedule, you might need an extra night in Entebbe. This can be pre booked with payment of supplement.
NOTE: Today’s journey is long about 9 hours for 450 km; therefore, you should consider late flights after 8pm or adding an extra night in Entebbe.
